Hill of Crosses in Lithuania

The tradition of leaving crosses began after an uprising against the Russian tsar was put down in 1831. You don't need to belong to any relegion, in order to appreciate the determination and endurance of the people of Lithuania, which were oppressed by the Russians to no end.

Crosses from all around the world. This a place demonstrating the power of simple acts by individual people.

It's hard to believe what You see and it's impossible to imagine without visiting it. It is over 50000 crosses on this hill.


Being not a religious person, i still enjoyed very much visiting Hill of Crosses.The Hill of Crosses is a breathtaking site.

Depending on your own personal beliefs, this site may have an impact on you or not at all.

Even if you are no religious person this place will stop you to think about religion.

So glad I visited Hill of Crosses, fascinating history, marvellous environment.  We spent a couple of hours there wondering around, it is really amazing.

There are many crosses and you can even add your own cross. Also you can visit a small church.

Walking between the crosses on the narrow paths you see many crosses. You will never see it in other places, this is exceptional Lithuanian. You must see it.

As you walk through the paths you hear faint music and a hushed atmosphere overcomes you.
